How Professional Paint Correction Works From Start to Finish

Exterior Detail and Paint Decontamination

Before any machine comes into contact with the paint, the vehicle is thoroughly washed and decontaminated. That means removing bonded surface contaminants such as iron particles, tar, industrial fallout, and anything else that has embedded itself into the clear coat over time. Trying to polish over contaminated paint produces inconsistent results and can cause additional damage. The surface has to be completely clean before correction begins.

Paint Thickness Measurement 

Once the surface is clean, the paint thickness is measured across all panels. This step tells the correction team exactly how much clear coat is available to work with before polishing begins. Clear coat is not unlimited. Knowing the thickness of each panel ensures the correction process removes defects safely without compromising the integrity of the paint system. 

Machine Polishing to Remove Defects

This is where the correction happens. A dual-action or rotary machine polisher is used with a specific pad and compound combination chosen based on the severity of the defects and the condition of the paint.
